As a photographer, I’m lucky to work with so many creative and hardworking indivduals who are doing beautiful things in our community. Today, I’m excited to spotlight one of them — Summer Judd, the talent behind Art by Summer Judd. From personalized banners that add charm to every celebration, to cheerful window paintings that brighten local storefronts, Summer is bringing color and creativity to northwest Oklahoma in such a special way.

We teamed up recently for branding photos, and I also had the chance to ask her some questions about how she got started, what inspires her, and what’s next for her growing business.

Meet Summer

“I’m Summer Judd! I’m 22 years old, married to my high school sweetheart, and we have a golden doodle named Rosie,” she says. “I’ve always been creative, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve found more ways to be artistic — and I love it!”

From Sorority Banners to a Side Hustle That Took Off

Summer started painting banners for her sorority and bachelorette party, but it wasn’t long before she realized this could be more than a hobby. “I thought it would be fun to offer them to other people for their occasions,” she said. Then she discovered window painting on TikTok and gave it a try at the boutique she worked at.

Just one day after that first window, she posted on a local Facebook group — and by the next week, she had her first customer. “I’ve been pretty busy with my paintbrush after that!”

Banners for Every Occasion

Summer’s banners are completely hand-painted and customizable, and she creates them for just about every event you can think of. “Birthdays are definitely the most popular, but I’ve also done banners for graduations, baby showers, bridal showers, retirement parties, church events, holidays, pop-up shops — you name it,” she says.

She especially loves when a customer comes to her with a fun theme. “They’re the perfect touch to an event and make such a great photo backdrop!”

Why She Loves What She Does

“Honestly, I love seeing the final product come to life — especially when I start to doubt myself,” Summer says. “It shows me I really can do this.”

She also shared how encouraging it is to paint storefronts out in the community. “People walking by will say things like, ‘I have no idea how you can do that!’ or ‘That looks amazing!’ — those comments always make me feel good.”

Her Creative Process

Every banner or window starts with a message from the customer. From there, Summer creates a digital mockup for approval. Once it’s finalized, she gives a timeline and keeps the customer updated as she works. “Once it’s done, I either deliver the banner or paint the window, and of course, I take a photo to share!”

A Few Favorite Projects

“I’ve done so many windows I’m proud of because I completely freehand those,” Summer said. One that stands out is a detailed Cherokee Chief head — a project she loved, even though she says she’ll always be a Tiger at heart!

As for banners, she especially loves painting characters because they’re more detailed and challenging. “Those are the ones I’m always most proud of.”

Community-Centered Creativity

When I asked Summer what she hopes her art brings to others, her answer couldn’t have been more aligned with what I think so many of us value — intentionality and connection.

“For families, I want my banners to be part of their most special moments,” she said. “For businesses, I want to help them stand out. I hope my work encourages people to slow down and celebrate more intentionally.”

How to work with Summer

Right now, the best way to order a banner or window painting is to message Summer through her social media here. She’s working on adding an order form soon to help streamline her process — and trust me, with how busy she is, she’ll need it!

She currently takes on up to 4 banners per week and aims to book 1 window painting per month, since she’s balancing this side hustle with another job.

What’s Next for Art by Summer Judd?

Summer is working on a few exciting updates, like a brochure to help new customers understand her process. She’s also launching something super fun: coloring banners — large coloring sheets that can be used at parties or events, with themed designs kids and adults can color together.

Think fireworks, popsicles, and summer fun for the Fourth of July — such a creative idea to make parties even more interactive!
